has the final results. Congrats to Brian Nelson for his Overall Win – just a 1/2 a point ahead of Jeff Bailey.

We welcomed new shooter Colby Harris, Shawn’s son and Connor’s brother. This was his first match ever!

And new to us were Dexter Didulo, who is early in his practical shooting career but doing very well.

Thanks to Farley & Inez Collins, and “Other” Ken Brownlee for joining us from SLC. They brought that delightful Winger target. Thanks!

And we welcomed back Rick Punu & Bob Bales, from Kingman, AZ and Todd Griffith and Phillip Vollmer from SLC. Thanks for joining us guys!

We tested 4 new things at the match:

Android scoring – got through it, but with a few hiccups

the Winger target – quite enjoyable, we are going to try to get it into the Area match.

the Gully Run – whew… the best 22 seconds I’ve had in a long time.

our new steel walls with a ez-tarp option. It worked well, for club use, but probably not for anything LII or LIII

Thanks to all who helped with our beta test of these new things – we appreciate the feedback!

17 brave souls dared the icky weather. I only heard about it… I was in Vegas for the SHOT Show 3-Gun which, unfortunately, was winded out (40 MPH steady winds and 70MPH gusts).

Match Results can be seen here:

http://practiscore.com/match-results/uuid?uuid=A2AFD389-6A4E-479A-98EA-82802A495225

NOTE: If you don’t have a USPSA # listed in these results, please send it to me. I’ll need it before posting the final results (with mulligans entered) to the USPSA classification system.

Also, you can check your hit factor for classification ranks at cmcalc.com

Posting scores would have happened faster but the apostrophe in Stage 3 “Brookout’s Boogie” caused an SQL injection error in the new Practiscore.com posting. SQL Injection is a bad problem and I’m glad we discovered it now. Google it if you wonder why…

BTW: I’m very pleased… once the SQL injection problem was solved, posting the scores online involved a single button click from the iPad we synchronized all scores too. It couldn’t have been simpler, or quicker.

Congrats to Jeff Bailey for taking 1 and 2, and Chad Larsen (Production) for 3rd. Chad will be a force once he gets the finer parts of this game down.

We also welcomed visiting shooters Chad Johnson, Burton Smith and Mark Hepworth, they came down from SLC area. And our first time shooter was Cyle Brooksby – congrats on your first match!

I’m pleased that Jeff was able to run the match and PractiScore stuff without issue. It will be in the App Store on Tue or Wed, available to the public, and this was a good final test.

One of the hardest things for a stats guy to do is to post score results. With PractiScore on the iPads I can know the results immediately, but it can still take me 15 or 20 minutes to prepare them for online posting.

We are about to release PractiScore into the App Store for general use, and one of the new features we are adding is online score posting directly from the phone or iPad.

An example of this, using the State Match data, can be browsed here.

Searching is currently on a record basis, so for instance “Ken Nelson” means “Ken” and “Nelson”. We are changing it to mean “Ken or Nelson”. With “or” you can compare friends easily, for instance “Brian Ken Jeff “ would find three guys who traveled to a match together and compare them instantly.

We will be adding personal stats for each shooter as well in the next few days. That will list, per shooter, their results on stages in a single view.

Feedback welcome. Note that this is under development, so it could change or break as you use it.

Note: Also, it may look funny on some versions of the Firefox browser. We are working on that.

We arrived to a brisk 27 degrees… brrrr… but fortunately we had a 1.5 hour club meeting to let the sun rise some more. I’ll write about the meeting separately.

We welcomed 4 new competitors to our club this match. Three were experienced competitors who normally shoot in Vegas. Keith Siervag, Larry Panackia, and Bud Gagnon. Bud, is a snowbird from Canada. He is allowed to shoot here in America. (-:

And Ryan Carter, of St. George, shot his first USPSA match ever and enjoyed himself quite a bit. He did pretty good too.

I had fun this match, in spite of having a single shot pistol. How could this be I wondered as I cleared 10 jams per stage??? This gun ran perfectly til the richochet put me in the ER while at Area 2 in Phoenix and I hadn’t shot it since. What could have happened??? Brian admitted on the way home he had “improved” it, if improving it means having the striker follow the slide forward. NOT. Anyway, that change is now backed out, and I probably have a working gun again.

Results follow. Enjoy! (Update – fixed bad combined divisions link)

It didn’t start promising… low 30’s overnight and raining. And a strong drizzle at 0630. But the clouds parted and by match time it was still brisk, but dry.

36 shooters dared the ominous clouds and end up with a pretty nice, if slightly windy day.

First, some house keeping… Going forward I will always name the 2nd time through a stage we are reusing with “2nd” or “Reverse”. That way you know which to score. My wife and I re-entered a a bunch of data, and we learned our lesson!

Second, THANKS to Dallas Theobald for bringing out some prizes. He got them from Rowdie’s Range, but paid for them himself. We awarded them randomly, two to each squad. And it was fun! Thanks Dallas.

Next match… Black Bear Diner has graciously provided a $25 gift certificate that some lucky shooter will win. If you haven’t eaten there, you should. It’s terrific.

These shooters competed in their first USPSA match:

Jazer McFarland – we also welcomed visits from Jazer’s family. They all just moved from Oregon, and heard it was warm here! Not! (today anyway).

Mike Denison – Mike rocked a 1911 in his first USPSA match. He looked like he was having fun (-:

Chase Shillig – Chase had baby obligations and had to leave after just 2 stages. He will be back!

Good job guys!

Also, new to our matches, and we were pleased they shot with us were:

Athena Means (a regular shooter in Vegas, 1st time here)

Sarah Morrison (a new competitor, from Vegas – she did two new competitor classes this week with us)

Jim Kuhns (Jim shot USPSA in the 90’s, and has rekindled his interest since retiring to St. George from San Diego)

Farley and Inez Collins (from the SLC area. They also GRACIOUSLY provided that crazy spinning Polish Plate Rack – thanks!) If you want to shoot it again, we will use it next match, and also at the State Match in Dec.

A dozen or so shooters had been asking for more rounds in this crisp pleasant weather. So we tried a new “concept” – the 5 stage or 7 stage match option. Feedback on it was really positive. I don’t know if it will be a regular feature, but when the weather is primo, I suspect we will use it to feed those hungry for more shooting. Of 36 shooters starting the match, 20 shot all 7 stages, even though the weather wasn’t as primo as we might have preferred.

Congratulations to Jerry Bonura, for taking the Open and Overall win in both the 5 and 7 stage match. Congratulations to Ken Nelson (me!) for winning Limited in the 5 Stage Match, and to Jeff Bailey for taking Limited in the 7 Stage Match.

Detailed Scores follow. The 7 stage match details has just the competitors that shot all 7 stages.

16 Oct Update: There was a data entry error on 4 Bill Drill between Reggie and Nels scores. I updated to correct this.

You really can’t ask for better weather than we got today. Perfect! Match results follow below. Please verify your USPSA # before I submit the scores. I’ll give it a couple days for you to check and report errors.

Thirty Six shooters started. I dropped out after failed attempts at the first stage, with an open gun that just didn’t want to cooperate. So the match results will show 35.

Kudos to Jeffrey Yerger, out of Las Vegas, on a win shooting minor today. Well done!

Congrats to Randy (Dad) and Collin (son – 14 years old) Wang on their first USPSA match. They attended the New Competitors Class yesterday and then ran with us today. They did terrific – safe and good runs for first time competitors.

We also welcomed Howard Hepworth as a first time competitor. Howard is an excellent shot with great gun handling skills. As he gets the competition stuff down, running faster, fast reloads and split/transition he will move rapidly up the results.

First time shooters with us were Jerry Bonura and Ryan Gangwish from Las Vegas, and Kent Haslem from Cedar. All are active USPSA shooters in their home region and we look forward to shooting with them again.

It was great to see the Kelly brothers (including a 1st timer eldest brother Shanan), and also John Allen, Charlie Wotkyns and Adam Mann out again.

The record for traveling to our match goes to Ferdinand and Donald Delarosa – of the Phillipines. Donald lives in Vegas, but Ferdinand is visiting from the Philipines. He said that shooting with us today was one of the highlights of his shooting life – and we sure enjoyed their joining us today. I invited them to visit with Brian and I at the MG Nationals later in the week.

I would be remiss in not acknowledging a few glitches in the match today – ones that slowed us down and also an important safety issue:

squad sequencing – with the late arrival of a squad (which we are fine with) it is incumbent on me, the MD, to make sure they have a stage sequence that doesn’t collide with and delay the other earlier squads. I had a plan on that, but changed it (incorrectly) at the last minute. I’ll think it through a bit more in the future – and my apologies for the stack up on Dark Halls 2.

We wanted a higher round count today, but if I’d thought it through I wouldn’t have done a 6 stage match with a 30 yard classifier. It took too much time and contributed do the stack up later at Dark Halls 2. Lesson learned. We wanted to up the round count in this good weather, but could have done that with less walking to score/reset. (-:

There was confusion on the 180 median intersect for Dark Halls 2, and some RO’s interpreted it differently, possibly affecting match results. Going forward Jim and I will decide a default median intersect, and if the stage layout causes it to possibly be different we will specify it on the stage brief.

So lessons learned, and we get better each time (we hope!).

As a note… we tore down a bit, but then got tired and hungry, so we went to lunch. Brian and I will finish up tomorrow early.

A HUGE congrats to Preston Acuff on his first overall WIN. And the first time running his brand new open gun (custom built by Cameron’s Custom Guns). Well done Preston!

Congratulations also to Conor Harris on his very first USPSA match! He did really good. Shooting a clean match. But he did find out it is harder for real than in our class stages. But he kept in there and did terrific.

We welcomed some first time shooters with us, Hillivi Diefenbach, Matt Lamph and Jeremy Ng. Welcome guys. They shoot in Vegas at Sin City and American Shooters regularly, and Matt was the Limited winner today.
