With the weather foreboding, 21 fearless shooters showed up. It would have been more, as some from Vegas were coming up, but with the rain coming down hard at 0600, I texted them to not risk the long trip. About 4 or 5 new shooters that had indicated this would be their first match, decided to try it for the first time in better weather. We also had two observers today that intend to shoot with us at the next match.
Tim Tucker shot with us today, so the race was on for 2nd place (-; But it was nice to have him back, and also to have the Cox family shooting with us again. New shooters, from up north, were Phillip Vollmer, Tom Tuft, and Todd Griffiths. Also, making his first appearance as a permanent resident of St. George, was Bryan Mortenson. Welcome Bryan!
Okay… to the match. Tim almost cleaned the stages, but a mike on the house stage opened the door for Jeff and he stepped right through it. Richard Hirschi had an unfortunate DQ on the first stage (shirt got in the way as he holstered and the pistol fell out), but he took it in good spirits and helped the rest of the match. Brian Nelson’s belt fell off and dragged along behind him, but he still managed a 3rd place finish on the stage – that’s focus! The weather held on with a spritz of rain here and there, and not until we had parked the trailer at the cleanup did it really start coming down. Thank you Mother Nature!
If you have any comments on the stages today, please e-mail me. Four of them are for the Dixie Open and if you saw anything that might be a problem, let us know. I’ll forward your comments to Jim & Jon.
Sometimes something that looks easy, just ain’t. Today’s match, with 4 classifiers, tested our fundamentals. Shoot fast. Reload fast. Shoot straight.
Congratulations to Chip Hartman, a first time shooter, who did very well for his first time.
Thanks, again, to those who came early and helped setup. And also to those who joined or renewed their club membership.
I will send a summary of the club annual meeting when available.
After a brisk morning we had excellent weather and fun shooting today. We also had a record turnout.
Congratulations to John Allen as overall winner.
Welcome to new shooters John Garcia, Ethan Gurney, and Max Plank. They came from Kanab today, where they all work for BestFriends.Org.
Also welcome to Mark Holmberg, a new shooter, who sounded like he was having a lot of fun and was already talking about what gun he would use at the next match.
Deputy Sheriff Woody Taylor also shot with us for the first time today and acquitted (pun intended) himself well. Good luck on the Sheriff shooting qualifications Woody!
And also, welcome to our Las Vegas visitors, Nels, Bob, Preston, Ravi and Kevin. They got up early to join us! And rewarded themselves with a tasty feast at the Cracker Barrel on the way home.
My apologies for not getting the final squad correctly into the results while at the range. I was one mouse click away, I just didn’t know to click it. (-:

Today we shot Stage 16 from the 2009 USPSA Nationals. I’ve calculated our Stage percentages as compared to Todd Jarrett, who topped that stage in the Limited match.

Well, how about that – two of our shooters – Jeff Bailey and John Allen beat Todd Jarrett, and the world’s best, on this stage. Our 3rd place shooter, 12 year old Brian Nelson, would have had a top 30 score.
I don’t know about you, but I like seeing how we do against the best and hope that Jon & Jim will continue pulling stages from major matches.
Turnout was great today, and we especially thank all those who helped setup and tear down. The weather was chilly, but tolerable and warmed up nicely through the day.
John Allen won handily today. The battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th hung on a mike or jam here or there. Future matches should be interesting, especially now that Brian has a handle on what ammo his gun likes to shoot. Will son best father (Nelson)? Which brother will best the other (Evans)? Will Jeff seat his primers right? Future matches will tell…

We enjoyed a great turnout and wonderful weather today. Many thanks to all who came, and especially those who helped setup and tear down.
Congratulations to Jeff Bailey who took Overall and Limited. Bob Anderson took Limited 10.
Welcome to new shooters Rob Richards and Micah Evans!
I will not be sending the classifier results in until later this week so as to give time for a few shooters to e-mail me their USPSA numbers.
