Brian & I shot a windy steel “mostly” match in Vegas with the Sin City USPSA club.
They shoot on the Sunday after our matches. Match results follow. 2 No-shoots (hitting the house) cost me 10 seconds )-:
The format and company was fun, we will certainly shoot with them more often. I’ll post a notice here if others want to ride down with us.

Hello all,
The Sunday 10/4 match was technically cancelled due to wind. There was a decent turnout of shooters so we threw together an unsanctioned and unofficial fun match consisting of 4 steel stages and one house stage. Due to the unoffical nature of the stage designs and targets, lack of a sign in sheet and incomplete info on the sign in sheets- scoring is on a time plus nature (similar to IDPA). Misses, no-shoots and procedurals were all given a 5 second penalty. B and C zone hits were given a .5 second penalty and D zone hits were given a 1.5 second penalty. There is no major/ minor scoring since not everyone wrote their division or power on their sheets. Sorry- no break down by stage (what can I say- the match was free?)

John Allen, 3 Oct winner, takes on stage 3
Congratulations to John Allen as the Overall Champion. Limited went nip and tuck between Adam Mann and Ken Nelson. Ken had Adam going into the last stage, and shot it pretty well. But Adam stepped up and went for broke and pulled it off, scoring 40% better than Ken and John Allen. He took Limited by a hair.

SUPR Highlights:
Jeff Bailey finished 10th overall in Limited Class, and was Top Shooter in Limited A class.
Gary Powell took 2nd overall in Limited 10 class.
Ken Nelson took Top Overall Unclassified Shooter.
Brian Nelson was the only Junior shooter in the match and got a nice trophy. He would have finished middle of the adult pack had he brought enough functioning magazines to avoid 6 FTE’s, 12 misses, and 0 match points on a 47 round stage. Lesson learned! Brian also had the joy of beating his Dad on two stages.
Speaking for Brian and myself, we had fun but were clearly shown where we are weak by complex stages with all sorts of new gadgetry we’d never seen before. I described it to non-shooters as shooting near par on Dixie Red Hills and then playing the Black tees at Green Spring and being schooled.
I’ll post videos and other stuff on the state match tomorrow or Tuesday.
The CAPS staff and the others that put on the match deserve a big thanks. I know I was exhausted when I left, and they still had work ahead of them.
BTW: We had a lot of interest in our Dixie Classic match in March.
Winner John Alan takes on Stage 1
First off, a big thanks to Jon C. who came out Friday and got much of stages 1-3 setup. That helped us start early. And thanks, as well, to those who arrived early to setup and stayed late to tear down. A very close match today, with John Allen nipping out Adam Mann by less that 1/2 a percent! The battle for Limited class was between Gary Powell and Ken Nelson. Ken had it until he got 6 procedurals and zero score on the classifier 5th stage. Congrats to Gary! C’est la guerre!
Thanks to returning shooters new Daniel Evans, Lynn Crawford and Ron Larsen. We hope to see you regularly!

The 2009 USPSA Handgun Nationals concluded today. After shooting today’s match, Brian and I headed down.
We watched the Revolver, Limited 10, and Ladies Super Squads shoot 6 or 7 stages. Their skill was impressive, as was their diligence in taping and resetting targets.
Bob Vogel had Limited 10 wrapped up until he dumped a round an inch too far into a no-shoot on the last stage. Dave Sevigny then beat him by less than a point – 1397.1341 to 1396.6533. Ouch.

Congratulations to Veijo Jones, a Master shooter from Davis County, that won today’s match.
Also, welcome Dan Evans a first time shooter. And we hope to see Kameron and Doug Terry, observers today, at our next match.
