Next Match: 3 Gun Match 7 Nov 2009

Category: AnnouncementsKen N. @ 8:05 pm

That’s right – it’s time for our biannual 3 gun match. This will be held at our SUPR range.

Brian & I will be at the AMU Junior Camp at Ft. Benning, so we will miss this match.  Phooey – it looks like fun!

Note that we have a couple California Competition 3-Gun shotgun shell holders available to loan. The ENTIRE key to a 3 gun match in the Tactical & Limited divisions is how fast you load the shotgun. 8 rounds in our M2, 8 rounds in these stripper holders, and 16 rounds on the gun, keeps reloading relatively fast.   They also hold extra AR mags, which may be useful on the House stage that will require a reload for most carbine setups.

Also available for loan from Brian and me are a Benelli M2 12 gauge 8-round capacity tactical autoloader with shell holders for 16 rounds on its side, as well as a couple high quality AR-15’s mounted either with a 3×9 scope or an EOTech (like) red dot. If you want to shoot a 3-gun match, but don’t have the best gear for it, Just e-mail if you want to borrow.

Stage 1:  Toss Up, Rifle & Pistol
Stage 2:  Keep Out, Rifle
Stage 3:  4 of a Kind,  Pistol
Stage 4.  Table Choices, Shotgun & Pistol
Stage 5.  Shotgun Showdown, Shotgun

Have fun!

Results from Sun 4 Oct Sin City USPSA Match

Category: Match ResultsKen N. @ 8:53 pm

Brian & I shot a windy steel “mostly” match in Vegas with the Sin City USPSA club.

They shoot on the Sunday after our matches.  Match results follow. 2 No-shoots (hitting the house) cost me 10 seconds )-:

The format and company was fun, we will certainly shoot with them more often.  I’ll post a notice here if others want to ride down with us.

—–

Hello all,
The Sunday 10/4 match was technically cancelled due to wind.  There was a decent turnout of shooters so we threw together an unsanctioned and unofficial fun match consisting of 4 steel stages and one house stage.  Due to the unoffical nature of the stage designs and targets, lack of a sign in sheet and incomplete info on the sign in sheets- scoring is on a time plus nature (similar to IDPA).  Misses, no-shoots and procedurals were all given a 5 second penalty.  B and C zone hits were given a .5 second penalty and D zone hits were given a 1.5 second penalty.  There is no major/ minor scoring since not everyone wrote their division or power on their sheets.  Sorry- no break down by stage (what can I say- the match was free?)

6 year old practical shooter

Miko, geared up for  120 round stage

The London Telegraph had an article in August about a 6 year old Practical shooter in the Philippines:

Miko travels across the country participating in national junior competitions.

Competing against children ten years his senior (in the 9-17 age group), Miko is now looking to travel to America to test his talents.

For Miko’s father, Cresencio "Mike" Pascua Andres JR, the boy’s passion and natural ability for practical shooting has been carefully monitored by his family and shooting community.

"It is within the family and friends that Miko was influenced to love and enjoy the practical shooting sport," says Mike. "Because of his interest, we took turns in teaching, training and coaching him on the basics of the sport."

Cool… I’m impressed he can rack a slide at 6.

BTW: Practical shooting is one of the fastest growing sports in the Philippines.

Brian & I shot a USPSA match in Las Vegas this Sunday.   As we fought our way south against hefty winds, we were wondering “is this a good idea???”…. but it turned out okay.

Yes, the wind howled early on, but the Vegas match director, Keith Wright, called an excellent audible and designed a fun, steel only, unsanctioned and FREE match on a piece of scratch paper in the equipment conex.

Steel only runs quicker and doesn’t blow over in the wind. Good call Keith!

We did have one paper stage, the shoot house.  You started in the middle of the house, shot forward, then had to move backwards, exit the front door and work up the right side of the house.  The stage had about 5 opportunities for 180s.  I ran 5 shooters through it and most came really close. One, though, spun the wrong way to back out of the house and the muzzle hit about 210. I had him stop, unload and show clear, and our squad leader DQ’d him.

And then the story gets good…

Mark, an airman at Nellis AFB,  grabbed the clipboard and scored the rest of our match.  Way to go Mark – that is the right attitude!

BTW: If shooting doesn’t take up your weekends, Mark has a hobby to consider. AutoCross. I’d never heard of it, but it sounds fun.

John Allen, 3 Oct winner, takes on stage 3

Congratulations to John Allen as the Overall Champion.  Limited went nip and tuck between Adam Mann and Ken Nelson. Ken had Adam going into the last stage, and shot it pretty well. But Adam stepped up and went for broke and pulled it off, scoring 40% better than Ken and John Allen.  He took Limited by a hair.
