Update on Range – and fuel donations needed

The engineer finalized the plans and delivered them to the County last evening.

The revised plan includes:

  • 11 bays, with 2 more provisional based on later plans for a 1000 yard range behind us.
  • 4 of those bays are wide and 100 yards long, useful for 3-gun matches.
  • the bays are flipped reverse of our old direction.
  • I’ll get an aerial overlay from the engineer and post it here.

Next up… we hope the County can send some machines out and move dirt ASAP.

And now is when we need to raise money to pay for the fuel for the earth movers.

Any donations will be appreciated.  My company will match donations up to $500 total. If you or your firm would also like to match, just call me to coordinate.

Make checks payable to:

SUPR

and mail to:

Ken Nelson
2129 E 170 S. Circle
St. George, UT 84790

or you can drop them by my office, which is behind the mall. Just e-mail or call (435) 703 2897 to coordinate.

I’ll bundle them up and get them to Jon, who is our treasurer.

Quick Report from the Double Tap Match

Wichita Falls, Tx….   28 degrees, 30+ MPH winds, and freezing rain, hail and snow. Oh… and a thick layer of wet clay mud adding 5 pounds to each shoe.

Hey… let’s go shooting!

Conditions were just above  intolerable. An “experience” for sure.   It should be 50 degrees tomorrow… fingers crossed.   I wish I could say it was “the same for everybody” but those that had Friday squaddings got 70 degrees and sunny.

We probably won’t come back to this one unless they move it to June.   The stages are fun, but 5 years of bad weather in a row makes it tough to risk a 1200 mile drive (-;

As to our shooting… a mixed bag.   When our guns ran, and our fingers held on to magazine during reloads, we shot high 65% to 75% level runs (compared to Max Michel on sunny Friday)  But on a couple stages cold weather gave the guns a bad time and made cleaning magazines impossible.   But that seemed to be the course from GM down to D shooters. Everybody was having fits, but was generally taking it in good cheer.    That said, something like 25% of the shooters dropped out (from anecdotal reports).  Our squad lost more. Some lost none.

6 more stages tomorrow… looking forward to shooting in better conditions. It will, unfortunately, still be muddy.

Update: Sunday was darn cold, but dry.  30 MPH winds continued with 30 degrees temperature.  At stage 11, and 12, it became warm enough to finally shed the coat when you were on-deck.

Word is the match will move to May or June. Good call.

Update II – ALWAYS verify time and hit factor before signing the Palm (or any score sheet).  I would have done a lot better if I’d caught a 937 second error had been caught when it happened, rather than when I was already home and checking results online. 100 stage points lost and a number of positions in the rankings.  )-:

Review: Glock Reference Guide

Brian Nelson just read and reviewed Ptooma Productions Complete Glock Reference Guide.

In conclusion, if you own a Glock, your police department issues a Glock, or you work on Glocks for other people, you need this book! Here is the link to amazon.com to buy it. You will not be disappointed!

He recommends it. And I’d note that my Glock 35 now has a nice crisp new trigger and competition trigger, safety and striker spring set that he put in it, with this book as his guide. And… it all seems to work (-:

The book is also available locally at Sportsman’s Warehouse.

No match this Saturday but a trip to Vegas to shoot planned

Category: AnnouncementsKen N. @ 5:34 pm

The range remains closed. I’ve no news on when it will be opened again.  As a reminder when opened it will:

  • have the entrance by the rifle venue
  • be faced approximately opposite (slightly south east) the way it is now
  • have between 9 to 12 bays (tbd) with one 100 yard one and the remainder shorter than we have now. They will be staggered towards the north west.
  • a 600 yard rifle range will be added in behind us.

I will update everybody when the plan is finalized and when dirt moves.  Thanks to those who offered to donate money for fuel. When we need that I’ll post how to do it here.

Also, Brian & I will be heading to Las Vegas to shoot a USPSA match there on Sunday.  If you wish to join us, we have room for 3 more shooters.  Just e-mail kn@kennelson.com or call me (435) 703 2897.  We generally eat Greek or Italian  afterwards at places near the range.

Also note that Brian & I will also be going down next week to shoot 3-Gun on Saturday and IDPA on Sunday.    We are trying to tune up for the Double Tap match later in March.
