We welcomed new shooter Colby Harris, Shawn’s son and Connor’s brother. This was his first match ever!

And new to us were Dexter Didulo, who is early in his practical shooting career but doing very well.

We tested 4 new things at the match:

• Android scoring – got through it, but with a few hiccups
• the Winger target – quite enjoyable, we are going to try to get it into the Area match.
• the Gully Run – whew… the best 22 seconds I’ve had in a long time.
• our new steel walls with a ez-tarp option. It worked well, for club use, but probably not for anything LII or LIII

Thanks to all who helped with our beta test of these new things – we appreciate the feedback!

About 6 folks built stages, and then did a little practicing.

And about 8 people took the kickoff training for becoming New Competitor Instructors.  And 2 lucky new competitors were there to be guinea pigs.  And Elly the dog was there too.  She is Dan and Melody’s new pup – very cute.

I’m feeling really good about the potential for us to schedule one of these classes weekly in a predictable manner. Thanks!

Going forward I’ll do them and sign up assistant instructors for the next couple months, and then when the instructors feel they are ready to go solo, we can start scheduling them on a predictable schedule.

My goal is to have a New Competitor Class and Practice once a week, and a Pistol Fundamentals class twice a month.   We need to build up our infrastructure for handling new shooters because in March (or so) a new marketing program funded by a grant from the local tourism board will kick off.  That should drive a lot of people out to the range.   With more trained instructors we can meet the demand.

Also, if you are a junior shooter, or have a junior shooter in your house, then e-mail me about a junior training program we will be commencing in March.  This will be bi-weekly (usually) training sessions with the goal being “Make A Class”.

Sorry for the late notice on this.  I’m running ragged keeping up with Area 1 squadding/final registrations.

We will have  6 stage match – 5 normal stages and 1 gully run (testing for Area 1).

Register: 0900
First shots: 0930

Stage 1 – Fixed 10

This is a 92 round match with fixed time and swingers and about half of it is 6 round neutral.

Stage 1:  Fixed Time, 10 rounds

Stage 2:  Quick Exit, 20 rounds

Stage 3:  Dirty Dozen, 12 rounds

Stage 4:  Heavy Baggage, 19 rounds

Stage 5:  Just Plain Bad, 31 rounds

Stage 6: Good Gully Gone Bad, 24 rounds   (no stage description, will build au natural)

Our normal setup crew is tied up at work and Scout obligations.

I’ll handle the gully run Friday, but we need help with the other 5 stages.

We hope to release the Android version next week, after successfully using it at our club match.

Thank you to the folks that came out to help move the overhead structure from in front of the berm.  It was a pretty easy task with the bunch that came.  We were done with that in less than an hour.  They helped to move a bunch of wood barricade junk, too.

I extend my thanks as well.  With such a good turnout, I was able to shoot the match over at the Cowboy Match, although with 4 misses on the first stage, I was thinking maybe I’d been better off helping move stuff…
